Spotify Help amateur hosts clean up their voice with a new background noise reduction tool on the Anchor podcast app.
This feature is called Audio Enhancement, which takes the form of a new button on the anchor recording screen. In the ad, Spotify calls Audio Enhancement its “most valuable audio editing tool” and you can get a good-sounding podcast even if you record in “a noisy coffee shop, on the subway, or with babies crying in the background.” However, we recommend that you do not put your home recording studio away just yet.
We tested the feature ourselves, and while it makes quiet ambient noise, it’s not by a wide margin. Conversations and music playing in the background are still clearly audible, though there is more focus on your voice. Granted, the phone used for testing wasn’t a high-end device. The quality of the sound enhancement may depend on the type of smartphone you are using. However, as an on-the-go tool, it’s a pretty great tool for hobbyists who don’t have a lot of equipment.
