Analysis: Fingerprint sensor upgrades

Qualcomm says it is much more difficult to impersonate a fingerprint using this technology than it is with standard fingerprint sensors. It will erase fingerprints faster when wet, and because of the sonic diffuse scanning, it’s more reliable when your fingers aren’t quite clean, either.

The larger surface area allows two fingers to be scanned at once, and the sensor has an error rate of 1 in 250,000, according to the manufacturer. However, based on the leaked protective glass we’ve seen appear online, we’ll have to wait until at least 2024 to see it in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S phone.
