More than 900 servers have been hacked thanks to Zimbra Zero Day

Zimbra Collaboration carried a zero-day vulnerability for more than a month, offering hackers a real field day that resulted in nearly 900 servers (Opens in a new tab) are hacked.

Kaspersky researchers noticed the vulnerability reported on the Zimbra forum, after which all kinds of Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) groups took advantage of the hacking of countless servers.

Kaspersky has classified the flaw as a remote code execution vulnerability that allows threatening actors to send an email containing a malicious file that spreads Webshell to a Zimbra server without triggering an antivirus alert. It is now tracked as CVE-2022-41352. Some researchers claim that as many as 1,600 servers have already been hacked as a result.

pull cpio file

The researchers later said that at least 876 servers were compromised before a workaround was shared, and a patch was released. However, about two months after the initial report, and while Zimbra was about to release a fix, Volexity said it had counted around 1,600 compromised servers.

Zimbra then launched the patch, and brought her cooperation (Opens in a new tab) Suite up to version 9.0.0 p27. In it, the company replaced the defective component (cpio) with Pax, and removed the exploitable code.

The first attacks began in September 2022, and targeted servers in India and Turkey. The first raids were carried out against “low-interest” targets, which led the researchers to conclude that the hackers were only testing the capabilities of the flaw, before moving on to more profitable targets. However, after public disclosure of the vulnerability, threat actors accelerated it, in order to use it as much as possible, before Zimbra released a patch.

System administrators unable to immediately apply the patch are urged to at least seek installation for a workaround, as the number of threat actors actively exploiting the vulnerability in the wild remains high.

This Nvidia RTX 4090 Graphics Card Has a New Feature – You’d Never Guess It

Here’s a new idea for RTX 4090 If you’re worried that a massive graphics card is causing some deterioration in your computer case: a built-in spirit level.

Yes, you read that right: A European graphics card manufacturer by the name of Manli came up with the idea of incorporating a spirit level (actually a couple) into the board itself, on the side.

sagging phenomenon where screen cards So big and heavy that it pulls the PCIe slot and Motherboard It is attached to it, which over time can damage these components (or the card itself).

The Manley Gallardo RTX 4090 Equipped with these two spirit levels so you can tell if the board is sitting straight in its slot, or drooping at all, and as Video Cards (Opens in a new tab)who spotted this, reports that it also comes with a support bracket to help defend against a dangling card.

Note that a Chinese graphics card maker, whose name we won’t mention, allegedly stole the design from Manli and Photoshopped its own logo at the top instead, in what appears to be a shameful publicity snatch (hence no mention of the brand). Boo, hiss, etc….

Analysis: Soul Levels in the GPU Physical World

In addition to this support stand, Manli explains that the Gallardo RTX 4090 has a reinforced metal (aluminum) backplate for added “structural rigidity,” and it’s a totally smart looking card. Although we’re not at all sure about the partial coverage of one of the three fans with the metal shroud partially overlapping it. (That couldn’t be a good idea in terms of airflow, could it?)

VideoCardz notes that this is a 3-slot card, but in Manli’s press release and specs, it clearly states that it’s a 3.5-slot board, so about the expected size (and somewhat bulky). But hopefully these above features will help as they were designed for, and the spirit level system will let you know of any dips.

In theory anyway, but what if your computer isn’t really level – or rather, the desk it’s sitting on isn’t level, or the room’s floor isn’t really level? You can get an actual spiritual level to check these things out first, of course. Similarly, it could be said that you can stick a spirit level on any board to check it (with the computer turned off, normally, and take the usual precautions), but the point of this integrated effort is that it will appear constantly, over time, if there is any problem with the development.

However, it’s still pretty interesting – and with a support chip in place, there shouldn’t be any issues – so perhaps that’s why Manli didn’t mention the integrated spirit level system on their webpage for the Gallardo RTX 4090. Or at Nowhere in the specs, or a press release for that matter.

However, we have nothing against trying new ideas, and it doesn’t hurt to have the system, even if we’re not really sure of the added value here.

New iPad Pro launches ‘any day’ — and there’s a tablet evolution in store

Apple is running out of months to get a file 2022 iPad Pro Actually in 2022, but it is said that they will arrive “in a matter of days” – and Apple is also said to have launched a new role for all iPad tablets.

This comes from the usually trusted Mark Gurman at Bloomberg (Opens in a new tab), who said the updated 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro will run the latest Apple M2 processor to increase performance by about 20%. It is said that the design is similar to the current iPad Pro 11 inch And the 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

Gurman says the new tablets won’t guarantee an actual event – matching Previous predictions – While he says The new entry-level iPad With USB-C and a revamped design in the works too, he hasn’t said when this will appear (we think may appear at the same time with iPad Pros).

Gurman has another interesting piece of iPad info to reveal: It looks like Apple is also working on an iPad dock accessory that will turn its tablets into smart screens. It won’t launch this month, but it may be revealed sometime next year.

This is a market category we’ve been expecting Apple to jump into for a while now: Previous leaks (also from the same source, by the way) had alluded to a HomePod with displayor Apple TV 4K with displayNow, it appears that Apple may approach the product from a different angle.

matches the approach that google pixel device take. When the budget list finally appears, we know it will come with an accessory that will essentially turn it into Google Nest Hub when the tablet is docked.

Analysis: Blur the lines of smart speakers

It’s really no surprise that Apple is planning to launch a platform that turns the iPad into a smart display — it’s a pretty straightforward idea So we thought about it. The iPad already comes with the Home app and Siri on board, so all the basics are there: All that’s needed is a power supply and some extra audio oomph.

As mentioned, it’s a way Google is following along with the Pixel Tablet, but Amazon already exists – Amazon Fire HD Listings Comes with accessories that turn tablets into Echo Show screens when docked. It’s just a matter of some tweaks to the interface.

This means that your tablet can do all the things a tablet needs while you carry it around the house, while also doing double duty as a home central monitor when you’re busy with something else — it’s not like it’s much. of us take our tablets from home.

The only problem is that these smart screen tablets that have just been docked may need a new name – to distinguish them from smart screens where you can’t separate the screen – so any suggestions are welcome. Battery-powered and portable smart displays are supposed to be the next logical step…

The second season of Energy episodes may deal with the creation of the single episode

Full spoilers for The Rings of Power Episode 8 read on.

rings of strength The cast has opened up about how the creation of the titular episodes will affect their characters heading into Season 2.

Speak exclusively to TechRadar beforehand Episodes of Power Episode 8Morfydd Clark, who plays Galadriel, reveals that the Elf warrior’s hand in faking them, and the fallout The last episode of the first seasonHer events, will leave a lasting impression on her. So much so, that Galadriel may begin to display the traits and abilities that fans of Lord of the Rings have come to expect from the ethereal being we see in the Third Age of Middle-earth.

Before Galadriel becomes the all-powerful dwarf seen in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogy, though, she must overcome more obstacles. It is the possession of the ring named Nenya and the responsibility that comes with keeping it safe, dealing with the major role her brother Finrod’s dagger played in its creation.

“I look forward to exploring her gaining power, from owning a ring, while not feeling herself as powerful,” Clark told TechRadar. “And any kind of duplication would be interesting.

“Throughout season one we saw parts of Galadriel’s soul, as an elf, just being there. It’s not connected to any part of being elves except for Vinrod’s dagger. That’s not healthy, it wasn’t good for her and she was kind of fading away, she’s become a memory like her brother, so I felt Grateful that she was able to free herself from it.

Read the summaries of the Energy episodes

“There is a great sadness for her to give it up, but there is also freedom in that moment. She does it to save her people too – she made big mistakes, but she still had to save a lot of people. Now, she’s going back to her fairy, and being around them again will lead Ultimately to make it more secretive, the Luthorian Elf that we see in the Third Age.”

How about the current episode creator, aka Celebrimbor? Elven smith plays a major role in forging JRR Tolkien’s source materials and bid budget head videos. How will he feel then after making the powerful trio of jewelry pieces? Considering who the ancestors of Selerimbur were, would creating the Elven Rings help him fulfill a long-standing desire to go beyond what his ancestors had made?

Galadriel may start to become more reclusive in season two. (Image credit: Prime Video)

“I imagine he’s going to have a slump after the performance,” Charles Edwards, who plays Celebrimbor, told TechRadar. “He made the rings. Now he has to wait and see what they will do. Will they have the desired effect [to save the elves]? Either way, Celebrimbor won’t want to leave his workshop. He has a lot of other work to do. I think Halbrand piqued his interest and sparked something inside Celebrimbor. Being the creative person, go with it and see where it takes you.

“Obviously he’s not explicitly said to be Feanor’s grandson. He has Feanor’s hammer but it doesn’t refer to him in a familial sense. So there’s a battle between trying to improve his grandfather. Celebrimbor has been living a very long time in his life. He kept trying to outdo him. I think the creation of the rings does that.” , but there’s still a lot of coloring into his character in season two.”

Halbrand – or rather Sauron – had a role in shaping the rings. (Image credit: Prime Video)

Speaking of Halbrand – or rather Sauron as we learn in Episode 8 of Prime video View – unintentionally had a role in its creation. Although not explicitly involved in the forging process, Sauron’s idea is to combine mithril with other metals, then create two instead of one, making the first of the name’s rings.

For Charlie Vickers, who plays Halbrand/Sauron in Amazon’s Lord of the Rings, shaping the iconic pieces of jewelry – and Sauron’s involvement in that – finally puts the Dark Lord on the path to realizing how he can “heal.” Earth.

“Their creation is similar to what we see in the Tolkien tradition,” Vickers says. “They are made by his influence and guidance, but he does not directly make them. They are made independently of his physical touch. So even if they are vulnerable to the One Ring, they cannot be controlled by the one Ring he eventually makes. Once he puts on that Ring, the Elves know their Immediately he created one due to his influence in forming their rings.”

So, can we expect to see the legendary ring forged in the Doom Mountain fires in season two? Vickers hasn’t confirmed much, but it looks like it might be a possibility.

“When Sauron walks up that cliff toward Mordor, he has a plan,” Vickers teases. “He’s always five to 10 steps ahead on the chessboard. Now, we’ll really see his real character. The showrunner has a very clear plan, and I’m familiar with some of them at this point. We’ll really see him transform into that character who’s always thinking about the future. Windows 12 – New Features, Supported PCs, Everything We Know So Far

Windows 12 will likely be Microsoft’s follow-up to Windows 11 – It could come sooner than you might imagine.

Rumor has it that the fictitiously named OS Could reach in 2024and the possibility of it Windows 12 could soon follow after Windows 11 Some of us at TechRadar have been delighted.

And while that still leaves Microsoft behind annual updates macOS And some other operating systems, upcoming Microsoft Moments versions He’ll at least watch it get more regular updates.

When that happens, we’d like to see more evolution compared to what Windows 11 brought. So, what improvements and new features might Windows 12 have? Users have been filling Microsoft with feature requests, with some of those wishes granted with 2022 updatewhich brought a redundant taskbar.

With that in mind, here’s everything we’ve found so far about Windows’ next major update, along with five features we’d also love to see arrive in Windows 12.

Windows 12: Cut to the chase

  • What is this? Windows 12 is the rumored successor to Windows 11
  • When does it come out? Possibly 2024 on a three-year timeline
  • How much does it cost? It should be as free as Windows 11 right now

Windows 12 release date rumors

It’s still very early days for Windows 11 – we’re not even on the first anniversary of the update’s announcement. However, going back to the previous versions, we expect Windows 12 to arrive in late 2024, just like Windows 10 support ends.

Windows 12 supported devices

When Microsoft announced the availability of Windows 11, the main requirement was for devices to have a file A hardware feature called TPM is enabledwhich is a security feature that can be found on most motherboards.

While Microsoft will likely make the same requirement again, it may be at a point where the TPM is enabled on almost every computer anyway.

Other than that, it will likely have similar requirements to Windows 11:

  • 64 bit processor
  • Clock speed 1 GHz
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 64 GB drive
  • UEFI, Secure Boot Capable
  • TPM 2.0 (trusted platform unit)
  • Screen over 9 inches with HD resolution (1366 x 768)
  • DirectX 12 / WDDM 2.x compatible graphics
  • Internet connection

What we want to see

We don’t know much about Windows 12 yet, or whether the rumored upgrade will ever become a reality, but we have a pretty good idea of what we want from it, with the following features topping our list.

1. Integrate Skype and Teams into MSN Messenger 12

It’s no secret that Microsoft’s efforts at video calling and collaboration through messaging apps have been less than stellar in recent years. At a time when people needed to communicate more remotely, it was Zoom that took the lead and left Skype bewilderingly by the wayside.

Although there are some new features that have been brought to both Teams and Skype, there is still an air of confusion as to which one you should use. If you need to participate in a job interview that’s in Teams, for example, you’ll need to quickly install the app and make sure it works.

Instead, let’s see them retire and mark a fresh start for Windows 12, with MSN Messenger back to do the job that these two apps struggled with.

Not only do we want to see the classic alerts, winks, and sounds back if users want to, but we’ll also be keen on powerful features to make it go toe-to-toe with Zoom, Google Meets, and FaceTime. You probably have Slack integration, so if a video meeting is needed, it can prompt in a channel and with one button, MSN Messenger will launch with the desired invitees.

Microsoft needs to restart the way it sees itself for messaging apps, and the return of MSN Messenger could be a great start to that.

2.Live wallpaper

Wallpaper Engine is available on Steam.

Request from TechRadar’s Senior Computing Editor Matt Hanson, and interesting at that. Similar features have been in iPhone and Android phones for several years now, with animations moving across these devices. But for PC and Mac, it has been converted to third-party applications, such as wallpaper engine (Opens in a new tab)To be able to have animated wallpapers with the ability to view information from your computer.

For something similar in Windows 12, Microsoft can increase its efforts on themes, something that has seen improvements in Windows 11, thanks to its dark themes.

Having a dedicated wallpapers section, where you can put static bytes of information on your desktop working with an animated live wallpaper, can appeal to all kinds of users.

Microsoft can also bring back previous backgrounds, like the slope of a hill in Windows XP, but make them animated, along with some clouds that display battery status or weather.

This can dramatically refresh your desktop and make it more up to date, without having to rely on widgets or the taskbar to display changes.

3. A dedicated podcast app

Apple Podcast

While it’s great to see the return of Windows Media Player from Microsoft, having extra features like podcasts seems irrelevant to the topic of Media Player.

macOS has had its own podcast app since Big Sur in 2019, but if you wanted to use a similar app on Windows, it’s not clear where to start, as Microsoft doesn’t offer a dedicated podcast app.

That’s why Windows 12 should include a dedicated podcast app that can also be used on other platforms, such as iOS and Android, so that your subscriptions can be synced across all your devices.

Podcasts are very popular, and managing them all in a first-party app would be great for Windows users. It’s something that can really help motivate the company’s efforts to make content available on almost every device.

4. Custom streaming app

running game

Great idea by our resident computing writer Jess WeatherbedThere is still an option integrated into Windows for streaming what you’re playing.

For years, there have been apps like OBS and Twitch that provide ways to broadcast what you’re playing or watching with others. However, these apps have always required that extra effort to make sure you’re streaming to viewers in good quality, with low latency.

Then there is the extra aspect of Peripherals used by banners To help show it in a better picture, or Stream Decks to easily control its settings with hotkeys.

It can be hard to manage multiple apps just to control all of them, which is why Windows 12 can benefit from having a single app that can manage your broadcasts and peripherals.

Microsoft has been pushing games in Windows 11 since it was announced in June 2021, with a redesign of the Xbox app and HDR support. But countless gamers are also streaming these games via Windows, so there is a great opportunity here.

Having a single app to control, say, loop lights and streaming for viewers is attractive, turning the heavy load into a single app. It can automate broadcasts based on the schedule and games being played, along with different lighting scenarios for different times of the day.

This may encourage more gamers to see Windows as a service, as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been declared Since the release of Windows 10 in 2015, while also making Windows 12 an encouraging prospect for live stream creators to gain more followers and income for their professions.

5. Companion app for Android

Samsung DeX

Suggestion from our editor-in-chief at Pro radar technologyAnd the Desire Atho – This could be an extension of your phoneMicrosoft’s effort to sync your mobile phone with Windows. But when you open this new app in Windows 12, it will have a design reminiscent of Windows Phone and its tile layout, and will enable the desktop experience from your phone.

This will be similar to Samsung DeXwhich can be transformed Galaxy S22 or Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in the desktop once it is connected to a peripheral device.

This new app will surpass the efforts of DeX and Microsoft Your Phone, though. When connected to a monitor, your Windows 12 desktop will be complete, displaying everything from your main computer. And when you click on any icon, it downloads content from the cloud and renders it in original resolution.

It will be an innovative extension of the cloud, where you can access your files wherever you are. Here, you’ll carry your desktop with you and all you have to do is connect your smartphone to a monitor, using either the touchscreen features or your keyboard and mouse.

As with the streaming feature above, this will once again cement Nadella’s plans to see Windows as a Service. Having your own computer in an app is an attractive idea, and it can help in those situations when you have a short opportunity to do some work with a spare monitor, keyboard, and mouse somewhere.

Google Pixel Fold leak reveals details of size, display and camera

We haven’t heard anything official about Google Pixel Fold When launching a program Google Pixel 7And the Google Pixel 7 Pro And the google pixel watch — but as a new leak shows, it’s clear that a foldable phone made by Google is coming our way soon.

people more than 91 mobiles (Opens in a new tab) – who are often accurate in their predictions – had access to many of the foldable’s specifications, including information about the size and shape of the device, as well as some screen and camera details.

The screen panels appear to be ordering from Samsung (according to Previous rumors), and it will run at a resolution of 2208 x 1840. The screen is said to offer an average brightness of 800 nits, a maximum brightness of 1200 nits, and a refresh rate that can reach 120 Hz. The dimensions of the unfolded device are reported as 123 mm x 148 mm.

Sensor Specifications

As for the cameras, the Pixel Fold is said to feature a rear camera made up of Sony IMX787 main (64MP) and IMX386 (12.2MP) telephoto lenses and S5K3J1 (10MP) telephoto lenses. The internal screen camera is said to use a Sony IMX355 sensor (8MP), with the S5K3J1 (10MP) sensor on the external screen.

Some of these sensor specs have been mentioned before, but as we get closer to the Pixel Fold’s launch, details are starting to gather from several sources – raising the possibility that they’re already accurate.

Speaking of the launch, the foldable phone is widely expected to debut At some point in 2023 (After originally rumored for 2022.) As always, pricing will be decisive, expected somewhere in the region of $1,400 (around £1,255 / AU$2,260).

Analysis: Emphasis is placed on this fold

We’ve heard that Google has been working on a foldable phone for a long time at this point (although we’re not in the apple car Earth in terms of longevity). Given the frequency of leaks we’re hearing now, it looks like the launch is getting close.

Promising tags: with Galaxy ZFold 4Samsung is now hitting the fourth version of its foldable flagship phone, so it knows what it’s doing in terms of screens. Then there is Google Expand the line of pixelsThis indicates that the company is serious about increasing the number of devices it has.

While foldable phones aren’t that common right now, they’re slowly becoming a more common sight – and as prices continue to fall as the cost of technology drops, this trend will only go in one direction. It seems like a good time to share with Google and give Pixel fans a premium view.

Meanwhile, Apple is waiting in the wings on its own foldable iPhone. It looks like Apple is ready to take its time when it comes to releasing a foldable phone, perhaps waiting for the technology to become cheaper and more reliable.

Celebrimbor wants The Rings of Power to meet a certain elf character in season two

Full spoilers for The Rings of Power season 1 continued. Possible spoilers for Season 2 are coming, too.

Famous actor Charles Edwards wants rings of strength Season two introduces a deep elf character – and then explores their friendship in more detail.

Speak exclusively to TechRadar beforehand Episodes of Power Episode 8Edwards revealed how happy he would be if it was a high fantasy head videosThe next entry included another dwarf from the Second Age of Middle-earth. the individual concerned? Narvi, who shares a close friendship with Celebrimbor after the duo worked together at the gates of Doreen, the famous western gate of Khazad Dum.

This entrance was built by two blacksmiths in the Second Age, allowing for travel and trade routes between Khazad-Dum and Eregion during a flourishing period in relations between elves and dwarves. However, it was closed off during the Elves and Sauron War, which ended the relations of the two kingdoms. In the Third Age, it becomes Frodo and his company’s entry point into the Mines of Moria in the Fellowship of the Arena.

Lord of the Rings fans already know that Season 2 of The Rings of Power will mark the live appearance of another elf. This person is Cirdan the Shipwright, one of the oldest elves in existence who has been awarded one of the Honorary Rings of Power. Serdan will surely get one of those pieces of jewelry after the three rings have been forged The last episode of the first season of The Rings of Power.

Understandably, Edwards is excited to see Cirdan’s introduction in a live ability. However, he’ll be just as excited, if not more so, to see Narvi debut on Lord of the Rings TV. In the source material, there is little mention of the close relationship between the pair, so watching another elf’s friendship through Celebrimbor and Narvi on screen would make for a great watch.

Read the summaries of Rings of Power Season 1

As exciting as Narvi’s participation in The Rings of Power Season 2, though Edwards isn’t sure if the dwarf character will be able to appear in Prime video View the next batch of episodes. Basically, a lot will depend on whether the show’s writers and Amazon have the right to bring Narvi into the fold.

‘Which – which [Narvi’s introduction] “It would be great,” Edwards said. I mean, whether the rights allow it, I don’t know. I don’t remember when Narvi was mentioned, or if he was allowed to be in it.

“But I think the creation of doors [of Durin] It would be a cool thing, no matter how floating it is. Not many people know who Celebrimbor really is, but they know The Lord of the Rings, and they know The Doors from The Fellowship of the Ring. So that’d be cool – and Celebrimbor’s name is on the door too, so yeah, it’d be nice to explore Narvi’s introduction.”

Microsoft technology to speed up Windows game load times is coming soon

Microsoft has announced that a new version of DirectStorage will be released to game developers before the end of 2022, and will come a significant step forward in terms of accelerating load times with SSD’s.

As you may know, DirectStorage is the feature that debuted on Xbox that delivers faster load times – and better performance in loading game assets in the big open world titles – and is It first arrived for Windows PC back in March.

What Microsoft has now open (Opens in a new tab) (Hint hat to Tom’s devices (Opens in a new tab)) is that DirectStorage 1.1, a new version built with GPU decompression technology, will be here very soon. Although there aren’t any games you’ll benefit from (yet – we’ll get back to this obviously crucial point).

Microsoft has already told us that DirectStorage (DS) will reduce load times by up to 40% – for games running on fast NVMe SSDs running on Windows 11 And this new piece of the DS puzzle, GPU Decompression, will deliver something in the order of doubling load-time performance, the company promises.

Normally, decompression (for compressed game assets, which has to be minified due to its huge size) is powered by the CPU, but what Microsoft does is turn that grunt work directly into the GPU.

Microsoft explains: “Graphics are very efficient at performing reproducible tasks in parallel, and we can take advantage of this capability along with the bandwidth of a high-speed NVMe drive to do more work simultaneously.”

In a Microsoft demo, the company explained that when DirectStorage is running with a GPU decompressor, compared to traditional CPU decompression, “scenes are loaded approximately three times faster and the CPU is almost completely freed up for use in other game processes.” (In this demo, the processor saw only 15% of max usage, by the way, compared to 100% usage when the DS wasn’t used.)

Now, keep in mind that this is a carefully chosen and ‘highly optimized’ offering (in Microsoft’s own words), but it certainly promises some big gains overall, which should see games that support DirectStorage load – and run – more smoothly. -circular.

Analysis: Forspoken Sadly Won’t Come (Still)

It’s worth noting that while DirectStorage is built with ultra-fast NVMe SSDs in mind, it will still work with slower SSDs (and hard disks indeed, to some extent); But the effect will not be nearly as obvious. Storage acceleration technology will also work well on Windows 10 devices as well, but Windows 11 introduces an advance in the storage optimization interface which again means DS delivers more impact. (Also, you need a file Contemporary GPU For DS to work, i.e. one with DX12 support and Shader Model 6).

Still the main catch is that although the work on DirectStorage is going well, there is still computer games that already supports the technology. We were supposed to get our first DS show game this month, Forspoken, But it was delayed until January 2023 (And it was actually brought back before then, which is disappointing.)

However, we only have a few months left – assuming there are no more hiccups – but until then, it’s just one game. No doubt it will be a while before broader support is adopted among PC game developers, but when it does, it could become a compelling reason to upgrade to Windows 11 for gamers (and a good reason to get an NVMe SSD for those who haven’t). You haven’t yet made the jump to the storage interface.)

Fortunately, the latest trailer for the game shows that our son is ready to take on them with a new and improved arsenal of attacks and abilities.

Even better, the new additions look really fun to use. The trailer shows moves like the improved aim attack and drop dash, along with all-new additions like the Phantom Rush, which left Sonic later photos of himself dazzling enemies with a flurry of punches and kicks. Then there’s Sonic Boom. A cheeky reference, but also an attack with Sonic firing a series of bowed projectiles that will leave Street Fighter 6Guile shy.

After a disastrous early reveal, each trailer did little to restore the image of Sonic Frontier. As a longtime Sonic fan, I have already become amazed by this game and I think it could be very good.

fight puzzles

So the fight in Sonic Frontiers seems okay. But why is this such a big deal? Well, simply because combat is something that Sonic games rarely – if ever – get it right.

Shadow the Hedgehog has completely missed the mark with its impractical (and shockingly edgy) focus on weapon-based combat. Sonic and the Black Knight, a game that I feel is understated, disappointed me wi Motion-based sword play. Sonic Unleashed approached its Werehog combat sections and almost game-like movement set, but it felt sluggish and not cooked enough to play.

Sonic Frontiers is a drastic change in that it’s the first time I’ve seen a fight in a Sonic game and I thought, ‘Yeah, that looks really good’. Obviously, we won’t really know how these new abilities and upgrades feel until we have the game in hand. But compared to the relatively recent sonic powers, Frontiers definitely sound more polished overall.
