The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT are here, and that could give Nvidia real cause for concern.
The RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT were announced during AMD’s Together We Advance_Gaming event Thursday in Las Vegas, barring a renewed graphics card battle with Nvidia following Nvidia’s launch of the RTX 4090 and the impending release of the RTX 4080.
Meanwhile, AMD’s new graphics cards are set to go on sale on December 13, 2022, starting at $999 (about £900 / AU$1,560) for the RX 7900 XTX and $899 (about £800 / AU$1,425) for the RX 7900 XT . This is significantly lower than the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, although third-party RX cards are likely to be more expensive.
Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT specifications revealed
The Radeon RX 7900 XTX will have 24 GB of GDDR6, while the RX 7900 XT will have 20 GB GDDR6. In addition, both cards will support the latest DisplayPort 2.1 standard, which is a key feature over the latest Nvidia cards, which only support DisplayPort 1.4.
The RX 7900 XTX will feature a game clock speed of 2.3GHz and 384-bit GDDR6 memory. It will contain 96 computing units (CUs), with second-generation ray accelerators, as well as AI accelerators. Meanwhile, the RX 7900 XT will have a 2GHz gaming clock, 320-bit GDDR6 memory, and 84 CUs.
When it comes to power draw, the RX 7900 XTX has a total power of just 355 watts, while the RX 7900 XT will need only 300 watts. Both cards use two 8-pin power connectors, and support the PCIe 4.0 interface standard.
Not the RX 7800 XT, yet
Neither the RX 7800 XT nor the RX 7700 XT has been announced, but it will likely come sometime early next year. Given the price of the RX 7900 XT, we’re definitely looking forward to where the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT end up on the price scale.
Nvidia has been driving upward pricing charges for the past couple of generations, so we love that AMD is making things more budget friendly and think it could be a major differentiating factor in the coming years.
When we see these cards anyone will guess, but as CES 2023 approaches, we don’t think it will be any longer than necessary.
