IT Minister Dr. Umar Saif has announced that China is in the process of finalizing an agreement to route its internet traffic through Pakistan. In a statement, he highlighted that this agreement is a strategic move to position Pakistan as a digital corridor for countries in the region.

Dr. Umar Saif emphasized that the inclusion of this digital corridor in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project serves as a significant digital enhancement for consumers. He stated that PTCL Business Solution’s Carrier Neutral Internet Exchange has been initiated, which will open doors for local hosting of major online platforms such as YouTube, Netflix, and TikTok. This initiative will enable content from Pakistan to reach global markets efficiently, establishing the country as a regional hub for digital communication.

Furthermore, Dr. Umar Saif emphasized the crucial role of the Pakistan Internet Exchange in enhancing Internet connectivity. He believes that this development will empower national networks to offer world-class Internet connectivity services.

Dr. Umar Saif pointed out that the attraction of international internet and cloud services will stimulate business growth in Pakistan. This, in turn, will contribute to the development of a robust local digital ecosystem, granting Pakistanis access to international information, content, and services.
