MUNICH, Germany, Nov. 15, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Synaptics® Incorporated (NASDAQ: Sina) announced today at Electronica 2022 the availability of KatanaConnectTM, the industry’s first compact SoM that offers low-power, AI-enabled computer vision and sound sensing capability with built-in Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity. Developed with leading module vendor Ampak, the SoM is a turnkey solution that enables rapid implementation of AI sensing features for connected IoT devices targeting a range of applications, including home automation, security, ambient living, industrial safety and monitoring, and others. many.

“KatanaConnect enables the fastest, most secure path of the future to feature-rich, AI-connected acoustic sensing and sensor systems in compact form factors,” said Ananda Roy, Senior Product Manager, Low-Power Edge AI, Synaptics. “All that is required for OEMs to rapidly develop differentiated products is to add a low-power image sensor, microphone, and custom AI algorithm model/program for the target application.

Unity combines Synaptics’ katana Proven low-power Edge AI SoC technology SYN430132 1×1 Wi-Fi 802.11n / Bluetooth combo in 33 x 32mm area. The SYN43012 is a highly integrated 1×1 IEEE 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2 module that delivers robust connectivity and reduces system cost and space with onboard power amplifiers (PAs) and low-noise amplifiers (LNAs).

KatanaConnect is supported by a flexible EVK for rapid system-wide evaluation and testing before final design. Algorithm customization can be achieved through the Katana AI software partner community for developing machine learning (ML) models. The SoM can also serve as a platform for developing innovative sensing methods — such as wireless sensing — that complement and enhance the Katana’s vision and AI’s auditory Edge features.

“Integrating Katana and connectivity into a single module provides a path for our customers to easily integrate low-power AI into their products,” said Vincent Fan, Vice President of Research and Development at Ampak, a leading manufacturer of communication modules with millions of modules. Shipped for a wide range of smart home and Internet of Things solutions. “With the adoption of Synaptics’ new Katana low-power AI solution, we are continuing a long and successful relationship between the two companies. We consider Synaptics one of our most trusted silicon partners.”
