We know a OnePlus panel is on the way, and it will be fully revealed in a few days. The newly leaked image gives us a better look at the Android tablet than we’ve had up to this point from the official sources.
The image comes from trusted regularly Evan Blass (via GSMArena), and it shows almost the entire back of the tablet, with a good portion of the front. The OnePlus logo and the large camera pop up, along with the Halo Green coloring.
You can see that the leaked image matches the first official image of the OnePlus panel that was featured in a TechRadar exclusive. This second image gives us a better look at the device as a whole, from a more revealing angle.
known and unknown
There’s still a lot we don’t know yet about the OnePlus Pad of course, including how much it will cost and what will be inside (there have been rumors about internal specs, but nothing official yet).
OnePlus has confirmed that the tablet will have an aluminum alloy body and cambered frame, which makes us believe that it will be a good device. There’s also Halo Green, which may or may not be the only shade available.
Everything will be revealed at the OnePlus launch event on February 7th, and of course we’ll bring you every announcement on the day. The date will also mark the international launch of the flagship OnePlus 11 smartphone.
Analysis: More Android tablets, please
We’ve lost track of how many devices are in the Apple iPad line at any given time of year, but as far as Android tablets are concerned, they’ve been slim picks in recent years. Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is definitely the exception rather than the rule.
One reason for this is that many Android apps are not particularly well optimized for larger screens. Given that there aren’t many tablets, this turns into a feedback loop – the developers aren’t going to make an effort for fewer users.
We’ve seen success stories of Android tablets, including the hugely popular Google Nexus 7 many years ago, and the Amazon Fire series of low-cost tablets, including the Amazon Fire HD 8. Android tablets can work If the price is right.
With Google’s upcoming OnePlus Pad and Pixel Tablet, hopefully Android tablets will once again have a moment. There’s no reason these devices can’t be a match for iPads for work and content consumption.
