While web-based Gmail has long allowed users to translate emails, the introduction of this functionality to the mobile app, as outlined in the Workspace Updates Blog, finally bridges the gap. Google proudly declared the seamless integration of native translation across Android devices, enabling users to effortlessly communicate in numerous languages.
To utilize this feature, users can simply click the “Translate” option at the top of their email. Alternatively, if the content language of an email doesn’t align with the set “Google.com Mail display language,” the option will reappear until addressed.
Despite the practicality of this long-awaited feature, the inevitable question arises – why did Google take so long to implement it? Regardless, the company emphasizes that this “highly requested feature” aims to facilitate reading and understanding conversations in any language.
Beyond the translation capability, Google introduces a dismissible banner, appearing when the content language differs from the “Google.com Mail display language” in account settings. Users have the flexibility to choose whether Gmail should always translate or never translate specific languages, providing additional control over their experience.
