While Arkane games, such as insulting The developer is quick to admit, hard to pin down, made up of a mixture of genres and an interwoven mass of systems, the co-op vampire hunting game Redfall is finally coming into focus. It even has a release date: May 2, 2023.
In the previous live broadcast about RedfallArkane focused on the moment-to-moment gameplay, how weapons work, some of the skills you can unlock, and how you can team up with other players to collect abilities against your vampire enemies. But in this latest Xbox & Bethesda Developer Direct livestream, Arkane steps back to talk about your overarching goal for the Xbox Series X game.
Your mission is simple: clear the city of Redfall of all vampires and their companions.
This may seem like a straightforward goal, but in practice, there’s a little more to it than that. For a start, it’s not just the town of Redfall that has a vampire problem. Cultists settled the community, capturing the survivors and feeding them to the vampires. It’s a kind of hero-worshipping cult, trying to get on the good side of pointy-toothed dangers and curry favor with the vampire gods.
To rid the town of vampires and cultists, you’ll need to move from neighborhood to neighborhood, eradicating vampire nests and cult operations. In the end, when you cause enough ruckus, you will need to kill the vampire under the boss. These are vampires equipped with special abilities that you will only come across in those boss fights.
In each neighborhood, you will find a safe house in which you can set up shop. Arkane didn’t go into too much detail about what you can do in these areas, though hopefully they’re more than just quick travel and retrieval spots.
When you kill a lower boss, you will claim his skull, which acts as a kind of key. Collect enough skulls and you’ll unlock a battle with one of the vampire gods, I don’t know how to put this other than to say they’re a big vampire. They’re the kind of big guy that makes me think I might have to play Redfall It’s in co-op after all, though you can complete the entire game in single player.
I’ll make the call on whether I want to go it alone vs. the near-time vamps, but at least I can time the decision now, because Redfall The release date is not far away. I have to wait until May 2nd only. And of course, since it’s coming out on Game Pass on day one, I don’t even need to convince my friends to grab a copy. We can just turn it on on a whim.
