Callisto Protocol’s performance on Xbox Series X is a little scary right now

After its release, Callisto Protocol’s performance was one of the main reasons for its mixed reviews from players and critics, with most of its reviews on Steam highlighting the performance issues it encountered from day one.

While we were impressed with what we saw on the game’s launch ride, according to some sources, such as Eurogamer (Opens in a new tab)These issues have led some gamers to believe that the Callisto protocol seems almost unplayable on PC due to stuttering regardless of the system. For Xbox Series X players, the issues are to a lesser extent but still noticeable and affecting the overall experience with the Callisto protocol.

One major issue is that the shaders aren’t pre-compiled, ensuring that every time something new is rendered, you may experience severe frame drops and visual stuttering regardless of CPU, but the problem can be worse on older, less powerful models.

For the Xbox Series X, however, performance issues are an issue, but the biggest gripe is the lack of one feature: ray-traced reflections, which stray from pushing forward game realism. Although all systems offer a selection of performance modes, Callisto Protocol performance on Xbox Series X and PC requires a patch update.

Performance on PS5 appears to be much better, which may be because, based on Callisto Protocol credits, more than 150 developers from the PlayStation Visual Arts studio helped with the development. This Sony studio focuses on motion capture and cinematography and supports other studios. This could mean better optimization of the Callisto protocol on PS5 than on PC and Xbox.

A day after the launch, developer Striking Distance Studios released a patch update to resolve several performance issues on PC that players had been reporting and promised many additional updates to follow. The hotfix aims to target and fix issues caused by stuttering.

Originally reported by Forbes (Opens in a new tab)The latest patch has helped with some major stuttering issues, but there are still repetitive micro-concaves that aren’t as significant but kill the experience. In upcoming updates, Stringking Distance says there will be performance improvements on PC and Xbox Series X, but a timeframe on when to expect more updates hasn’t been released yet.
