Cybersecurity firm Bitdefender has launched a new tool that provides real-time chat protection for mobile-based instant messaging applications.

The tool works via Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android, the consumer-facing platform tool to monitor, detect and stop link-based attacks delivered via messaging apps, notifications, and SMS.
How it works?
The solution constantly monitors chat sessions, alerting users to suspicious links that may attempt to steal financial data, credentials, or other sensitive information.
When malicious links are detected during chat sessions, the user then receives a warning with information about the associated risks and the proposed course of action.
If the warnings are ignored, the built-in web protection technologies prevent the user from going to the malicious web page.
For example, if users receive a suspicious link via their messaging apps, notifications, or text messages, they will be notified to prevent the link from being accessed or shared.
If a potentially dangerous link is inadvertently shared, users also have the option to recall or delete the message.
In addition, Bitdefender claims that the new tool can detect phishing attempts that rely on human curiosity, urgency, and impersonation.

The tool is already available for new and existing customers and can be purchased from bitdefender.com or the Google Play Store.
This news comes at a time when messaging apps remain a common end point used by cybercriminals to gain access to systems.
