E-scooter brand Atomi has launched a new flagship vehicle, the Alpha, with a greater focus on safety than most. This results in some features that, surprisingly, not many other e-scooters have, like turn signals for the streets.
There are other scooters, eg NIU KQi3 Pro, which uses LED headlights, brake lights, and reflectors for safety (all of which Alpha also has), but most of the time, the companies stop there. Atomi, however, has decided Add more than the basics (Opens in a new tab). In addition to turn signals, the Alpha is equipped with A series of customizable ambient lights (Opens in a new tab) Under deck and on the trunk which will come in handy during night cruises. You can control it via the Atomi app where you can change the color and pattern of the lights. For the turn signals, there are physical switches on the handlebars that look like a car.
As for the locks, Atomi saw fit to double. You can protect Alpha with in-app locking; Something other brands choose. But there’s also a physical combination lock with a thin steel cable to wrap around a surface-mounted bike mount. We asked Atomi why she chose to include a physical lock because most don’t. A company representative told us it’s simply a matter of offering that second layer of security so people don’t have to lug around extra equipment.

Safety features aside, the Atomi Alpha looks like a fairly decent electric scooter for the city, though it’s nothing internally like we haven’t seen before.
Powering the scooter is a 650-watt motor with a maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour (about 18 miles per hour) and a maximum range of 40 kilometers (25 miles). The deck, which sits atop 9-inch puncture-resistant tires, can handle a maximum load of 120 kilograms (265 lb). An LED display on the handlebars will display your current speed and how much battery life is left. The rear suspension is promised to ensure a smooth ride [on] different terrain,” according to Atome.
Other notable features include three speed modes (pedestrian, eco, and sport) and a foldable stem for easy storage. Again, these are all things we see elsewhere. But if you’re someone who likes to ride at night and wants better safety, the Alpha is certainly well-equipped for that.
It is currently Available for purchase in the US only from the Atomi website (Opens in a new tab) Starting at $649.99. At the time of this writing, there are only two colors available: Zinc White and Pine Green (black is currently sold out). An Atomi representative told us that the company is looking at overseas shipping, but couldn’t make a date.

Although the Alpha’s price may be steep, it’s not the most advanced scooter out there.
