You can now set personal pronouns on Google Workspace

Announcing the change in the Weekly Digest post on Google Workspace updates blog, the company also explained that pronouns will also be shown in Google Contacts, accessed via the “Open Detailed View” option in information cards that appear when you hover over profile pictures in the workspace.

If an administrator has enabled the feature for their organization, users can set their own pronouns and appearances in Google accountwhile administrators can learn more about the feature from Google Help Center.

Google already gives Workspace users the option to select their gender, which affects how Google refers to and presents other Workspace users.

For example, users might see text like “Send her a message.” Likewise, if a user identifies as another gender all together, or prefers not to specify, Google products will refer to that user as “their”.

The final step of enabling users to display their pronouns is simply a more explicit way to present those choices, and for organizations to show clear support for changing and alternative gender identities. We are all for it.
