Windows 365 updates may soon be less of a hassle

Hopefully, installing the latest Windows 365 updates and fixing other issues will be less of a hassle for everyone thanks to a new tool from Microsoft that’s coming soon.

The company revealed that it’s working to add new settings that will mean Windows 365 updates or other background fixes don’t hijack or restart your PC when you’re in the middle of an important task.

The new Maintenance Windows aims to cause as little disruption as possible, the company says, and it hopes to solve one of the most common complaints of Windows 365 users everywhere.

In its entry into the official Microsoft 365 roadmap, the new maintenance windows are described as covering downtime and service functionality.

Scheduled at regular recurring points, it will cover “general maintenance activities” in hopes of causing “the least amount of disruption to the end user,” Microsoft says.

This should mean less unexpected or annoying device slowdowns or update installs during peak times, as the service learns when you use Windows 365 frequently, and does its work around that.

The service is still described as “under development” at the moment, which means that users may not be able to try it out for some time. Its roadmap entry indicates that the service is slated to be generally available by June 2023, with Windows 365 users around the world able to try it out.

This news comes shortly after Microsoft also unveiled the Microsoft Office 365 Government Secret Cloud, the most secure environment ever for the company’s leading collaboration tool. It offers particularly secure variants of the Exchange and Outlook email clients as well as its own suite of Office programs, providing a level of security and compliance for productivity tools suitable for government use.

Microsoft is somewhat pushing the update right now, as it recently announced the end of its Windows 7 and 8 product lines. Older operating systems stopped receiving security updates from Microsoft as of January 10, 2023, marking the end of their lifespan.
