Voice recording of statuses is coming to WhatsApp but there are limitations

WhatsApp will soon let you talk about your status.

The new status update capability is integrated into a host of upcoming WhatsApp features. According to WABetaInfo, the company is working on 10 new tools. Most of them are currently available through the beta version of the Android app with a version exclusive to iOS devices.

On Android, WhatsApp is currently testing Voice status updates Allow users to record and share voice notes as status instead of plain text. You’ll have a maximum recording time of 30 seconds, and if you don’t like what you hear, you can get rid of the status before recording another update. It is confirmed that the notes are end-to-end encrypted, “ensuring that only people you choose with your privacy settings can listen to them.” They also disappear automatically after 24 hours or you can delete them yourself at any time.

However, there are limitations to the current version of Voice Status Updates. Not everyone who downloads the beta app will have the opportunity to sign up for updates because it is only rolled out to a select few. In addition, other users will need to install the beta version on their phones to listen.

Improved chat transmission

Next, the development team works on a Chat Transfer Renewal feature to securely transfer your chat history to a new Android device without having to use Google Drive; Effectively remove the middleman. The way the migration process works is that you need to open the chat transfer tool on your old phone first, after that Scan the QR code on the WhatsApp version of the new device. This appears to be exclusive to Android phones, and according to WABetaInfo, an iOS version is “not planned at this time.”

And the recent noteworthy changes in Android are the new shortcut blocking features. One will allow you to block someone in the chat list without having to open the entire conversation while the other allows users to block contacts from inside notice. Be aware that the latter feature only appears when you receive a message from an unknown source. This way, you won’t accidentally block someone you know.

iPhone exclusive

For iOS, WhatsApp is adding files Tabs to the camera within the app So you can switch between taking photos or shooting videos on the go instead of pressing and holding the on-screen button. It is not known if the video mode will continue recording after switching to photo mode or if it will stop. We hope this is the first, because it would be disappointing if the recording stopped after the switch.

Unfortunately, the iOS beta program WhatsApp is bloated, so any concerned new iPhone owners won’t be able to try out the upcoming camera mode. However, the latest Android beta still has room for cross-testers Google Play Store. The official launch dates are still not known to everyone.
