The Witcher: Blood Origin star is not aware of the season 3 rumors

Potential spoilers follow for The Witcher: Blood Origin.

The Witcher: Blood Origin star Minnie Driver has suggested she won’t be appearing in season 3 of Netflix’s main Witcher series.

Speaking exclusively to TechRadar on the UK junket spin-off, Driver tried to downplay reports that her character – Seanchai – will be moving to the main series, starting with season three of The Witcher.

In Blood Origin, Driver’s Seanchaí is a shapeshifting narrator who can traverse time and space. These abilities allow the mysterious Chronicler to travel to different worlds and time periods, telling long-forgotten stories to specific individuals during her journey. In doing so, Seanchai has the power to guide different worlds (and their races) down a different path – one that will hopefully lead to a brighter future for all.

Given Seanchaí’s ability to time travel, fans of the live-action Netflix series The Witcher believe it’s only a matter of time before the Driver character makes the jump to the main show. After all, Seanchaí interacts with fan-favorite character Jaskier (Joey Batey) in Blood Origin, so the spin-off series has set a precedent for her clashing with other Witcher characters.

However, when we asked Driver if she could confirm if she’d be appearing in season 3 of The Witcher, the Oscar nominee was understandably careful about what she could say.

“No – I mean, I hope!” Driver responded when asked if she could say if she was in Season 3. “There’s a lot of secrecy around the show, simply because the creators want to give fans the best possible experience when watching it. I wasn’t party to those discussions.”

It is natural to assume that the driver’s response is PR talk. Like she said, given the secrecy surrounding the Netflix series The Witcher, it wouldn’t be fair for one of the best fanbases of Netflix shows to confirm her involvement at this point. However, filming on season 3 of The Witcher has ended — the show’s third season arrives in the second quarter of 2023 — so Driver knows if her character is part of the proceedings, even if she and Netflix aren’t ready to say so just yet.

While she couldn’t directly address that question, Driver revealed that she would be open to reprising her role as Seanchai in a different season of The Witcher or even its own spin-off project. If Seanchaí is starring in her own Netflix production, there’s a certain Witcher character that Driver would love to interact with, too.

“Just hanging out with Geralt would be great,” Driver revealed. “But yeah, I love this world and this character. I love the fact that she can get into really dangerous situations, move through those landscapes, and then change shape.

“I think the idea of her being the storyteller is so deep and magical, so I’d really like to see her get close to the other characters and help them with her stories in this world. But we’ll have to see what happens.”

If Driver’s Seanchaí didn’t appear in season 3 of The Witcher, you wouldn’t have interacted with Henry Cavill’s hugely popular portrayal of Geralt of Rivia. Cavill is leaving the hit Netflix series Eleven Season 3 has been released, with Liam Hemsworth taking up the mantle of Geralt in The Witcher season 4 and beyond.

Fans reacted furiously to this news, even going so far as to start a Change.org petition (Opens in a new tab) To have Netflix fire the show’s writers and keep Cavill’s services instead. In response to Cavill’s departure, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich EXCLUSIVELY told TechRadar that she “completely understands” fans’ concerns about Cavill’s departure, but hopes the fanbase stays around to see where the live-action franchise goes from here.
