Leading European platform provider receives conformity extension for first fully automated identity verification at ‘Large’ eIDAS Assurance (LoA) level
ID now the leading provider of identity verification platform in Europe, announces the extension of AutoIdent matching along with a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) with the trusted service provider Namirial. The extension of conformity has been approved by the Italian Digital Agency (Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale, AGID) and is valid for the European Union.
The match extension, which comes about a year after IDnow first enabled an automated identity verification solution for highly regulated use cases, includes approval of two innovations: ‘, which does not require a mandatory manual review by an identification agent. This is made possible with the quality, security and reliability of automated fraud prevention checks, improving customer experience with real-time results.
The extension makes IDnow AutoIdent with QES the first in the European Union to be able to issue QES certificates based only on end consumer data captured in a self-directed identity verification process – with the help of automated AI-based fraud prevention. The solution can be used in most EU countries under 5The tenth and 6The tenth European Union Anti-Money Laundering Directives. Under these directives, the European Union has established and expanded Know Your Customer (KYC) methods for remote preparation and enforcement of criminal offenses. This aims to harmonize the European single market around financial services. The result of harmonizing remote enrollment methods allows IDnow to offer a unified means for the financial services and banking sectors to meet anti-money laundering obligations, optimize these investments, and conduct business more uniformly across borders.
The second part of the approval concerns the use of NFC technology in accordance with ICAO Standard 9303, an international standard that specifies the specifications for Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTD) issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). As part of the automated identity verification process, IDnow is allowed to use NFC technology to read embedded slices of compliant identity documents.
These innovations lead to one of the fastest and most secure processes in the European market with significantly increased conversion rates.
A major milestone for identity verification based on artificial intelligence algorithms
“This is not only a huge step for IDnow as a leader in the field of identity proofing, but it is also a major milestone for identity verification using AI algorithms in general,” Johannes Lesser, vice president of trust services at IDnow. “Based on this matching extension, our AutoIdent product with QES technology provides reliable data validation and fraud prevention that delivers high levels of assurance in a tightly regulated space.”
