Sony has revealed a new blue color option for its most comfortable pair of wireless earbuds, the LinkBuds S. The finish is a beautiful blue marble effect, created using a material produced from recycled water dispensers, helping further enhance the LinkBuds’ eco-friendly credentials.
The company also pledged two dollars from each Sony LinkBuds S. Sale in Europe and Japan – not just the Earth Blue model – will be donated to the US non-profit organization Conservation International to support its work on ocean conservation.
This new pledge comes after Sony has already announced that all LinkBuds S models and their charging cases are made from a material that combines recycled plastic car parts with stone – a material that apparently can be recycled. Each LinkBuds S edition also ships in unbleached, unprinted, and plastic-free packaging.
So, even if you’re not a fan of the new Earth Blue design, you know whichever model you choose will be more eco-friendly than many others. Best wireless headphones Abroad.
Analysis: a drop in the ocean
While we’re always happy to see tech brands do their part for the environment, this latest effort by Sony is – quite literally – a drop in the ocean.
According to statistics from Conservation International and Sony, every $2 would help the charity protect roughly 58,824 square meters of our seas — the equivalent of the area covered by about 47 Olympic-size swimming pools, so according to our calculations, Sony would need to sell roughly 6.2 billion pairs of LinkBuds S to cover the entire ocean surface area of the planet.
Still, it’s a commendable effort – what about the LinkBuds S themselves?
In our four-star review, we praised the earbuds for their lightweight, comfortable design—we can happily wear them for hours on end—and their respectable six-hour battery life (nine with Active Noise Cancellation turned off), if a father is shorter than we’d like.
In terms of sound, we liked it too. The pleasant, unintimidating sound was full of detail and featured a well-balanced sound stage, although the Sony Buds could have been more assertive; If you want to feel pumped with powerful melodies, this may not be the best choice for you, and music lovers may prefer a pair of Sony WF-1000XM4 Wireless Earbuds.
But if they’re for you, in addition to owning a great pair of earbuds, you’ll also feel good knowing you’re doing your part to help save the planet, and specifically your little piece of the ocean.
