OSS and TMGcore to demonstrate world’s first portable two-stage AI supercomputer featuring NVIDIA edge GPUs in SC22

One Stop Systems, Inc.

Escondido, California. and DALLAS, November 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – One Stop Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: OSS), the leader in portable AI solutions on the edge, and TMGcore, Inc. (TMGcore), the innovation leader in immersion cooling technology solutions has delivered a technologically disruptive two-stage liquid-cooled immersion-cooled version of OSS Rigel Edge supercomputer.

TMGcore’s immersion-cooled technology solutions make use of non-conductive, chemically inert, non-corrosive fluids. These liquids are just like water and submerged products like Rigel, in that the liquid’s boiling point properties efficiently remove heat from electronics without the use of large heat sinks. The lack of heat sinks allows for durable, highly compact pallets. This helps provide high performance in small form factors which are key product features within the AI Transportables space.

As the world’s first two-stage liquid immersion-cooled supercomputer for portable AI applications, this supercomputer represents a new level of operating efficiency, compactness, robustness, and Performance without compromising.

OSS and TMGcore will showcase the new immersion-cooled Rigel Edge Supercomputer at SC22the largest international conference on high-performance computing, takes place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, from November 14-18.

The Rigel Edge supercomputer It will be shown because it runs inside TMGcore’s EdgeBox 4.5. EdgeBox 4.5, as a two-stage liquid-immersion cooling technology solution, enables Rigel to operate at data center-class computing levels that cannot otherwise be achieved on the edge. Two-stage immersion cooling is several orders of magnitude more thermally efficient than conventional conduction air cooling.

Two-stage liquid immersion cooling makes Rigel more robust due to the shock and vibration dampening effects of the liquid. The absence of fans and heat sinks allows to significantly reduce the overall system size, power consumption and noise level.

“We wanted to work with OSS as they lead the market in powerful, high-performance computer solutions for artificial intelligence at the edge,” said Seamus Egan, TMGcore Vice President of Integrated Government Solutions. “Just like our patented immersion cooling technology solutions, Rigel’s powerful features are not available anywhere else. Combining these two technologies together demonstrates the potential for a unique, compact, high-performance solution for the removable edge.”

David Raun, President and CEO of OSS, commented: “Although Rigel is currently the most compact supercomputer available on the market, as a leader in AI Transportables, we plan to leverage TMGcore’s EdgeBox technology to bring more compact, powerful, and higher-performing solutions to market. ..”

Visitors to SC22 can watch a technical demonstration of the liquid immersion-cooled Rigel supercomputer at booth No. 1628. Exhibitor booths will be available from November 14-17.

OSS intends to launch multiple liquid-cooled versions of Rigel in two immersion phases beginning in the first quarter of 2023.

How does EdgeBox work
EdgeBox 4.5 will cool the Rigel by submerging it in a dielectric liquid, then the natural convection that occurs when the liquid changes from liquid to gas as it boils. The lower boiling point of the selected liquid produces a phase change from liquid to gas that efficiently draws heat away from the components of the system. The gas then goes to a condenser, where it returns to a liquid and releases heat, all in a closed system. The cooling process, which operates by natural convection, does not require additional energy to operate.

Rigel Edge Supercomputer Overview
Rigel reaches new heights in GPU-accelerated embedded edge computing systems, exemplifying performance without compromising where it matters. It is the first advanced product of its kind to use the highest performance NVIDIA HGX™ platform Powered by NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs and the NVIDIA NV Link® GPU binding instead of traditional PCI Express GPUs. Rigel also plans upgrades to the latest NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs.

“Rigel, along with the NVIDIA HGX A100 4GPU solution, represents a leap forward in advancing the design, power and cooling of supercomputers for rugged environments,” said Paresh Kharia, NVIDIA Senior Director of Product Management for Accelerated Computing. “The ultra-compact form factor of the powerful NVIDIA HGX A100 card, combined with groundbreaking OSS design using TMGcore’s two-stage immersion technology, provide a roadmap for denser, more powerful designs.”

The dense form factor makes the Rigel ideally suited for deployments in confined spaces available at the edge, such as the electronics compartment of autonomous vehicles, inside mobile command centers, under helicopter seats, or in an aircraft or UAV equipment bay.

AI transportation differs from traditional AI infrastructure in how it deploys the latest processing, I/O, networking, and storage technologies to run in harsh and rugged environments. AI transportation meets stringent requirements, highway-specific requirements, requirements for shock, vibration, frequency, operating temperature ranges, altitude ranges, and uninterruptible power.

Additional features and options that deliver performance without compromising include networking at up to 800Gbps using up to four NVIDIA ConnectX-6 cards.® 200Gb/s InfiniBand, 64TB of NVMe flash storage, 24 AMD EPYC™ 7003 cores, and an advanced OSS PCIe Gen 4 switch direct between these critical components. Rigel also includes a secure, unified management, monitoring, and control module that supports industry-standard Redfish specifications, with an easy-to-use interface for all system resources, as well as externally attached OSS expansion options such as additional GPUs, networking, I/O, and NVMe storage.

In portable AI applications, power is critical. Rigel supports a flexible power subsystem including single- and three-phase AC and DC inputs, enabling a wide range of grounding and vehicle power.

Rigel meets the growing demand for AI Transportables, which represents the fastest growing segment of edge computing. The edge computing market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 17.8 percent to $101.3 billion by 2027, according to Markets and markets.
