Microsoft Teams is finally fixing one of its most troubling issues

One of the most annoying aspects of messing up your Microsoft Teams video feed could soon be fixed thanks to a new update.

The video conferencing platform is working on an upgrade that says it’s “easy to transition” at several points within the call – namely when the video feed is turned on and off.

The update, simply called “Hybrid Grid View in Meetings,” will put all call participants in a 16:9 aspect ratio, which means Microsoft Teams users should miss that slightly overwhelming moment that occurs when someone turns off the camera, causing a window to pop up. Everyone else’s show is shuffling around and resizing.

Mixed opinion

The update will also provide users with several other customization options for their Microsoft Teams calls, including the ability to change the size of their grid by choosing one of several preset options.

“As a new version of Gallery, this is the default view for users when joining meetings,” the company noted, adding that users can choose to switch back to this view through the view switcher at will.

The feature is still listed on the official Microsoft 365 roadmap as “in development” for now, with a rollout set for June 2023. At launch, it will initially only be available to Windows desktop users, before being expanded to other soon-to-de .

The update is the latest in a series of changes the company has made to ensure that Microsoft Teams is a smooth and intuitive experience.

That includes the recent announcement that Microsoft Teams is finally getting video filters, which the company hopes will allow users to express their personality, as well as hide features they don’t want to reveal.

Among the raw visual effects are animated frames and video color changes, as well as existing tools that allow users to distort backgrounds and smooth video streams to hide blemishes.
