Microsoft is holding a surprise event and it might be about Bing and ChatGPT

Microsoft is holding a surprise and secret launch event at its headquarters in Redmond on Tuesday, February 7th. Bing ChatGPT integration may have gone out to a party or something together, we don’t know yet.

Windows 11’s parent company sent out invitations to a select group of tech media and analysts last week, but it’s just letting everyone talk about it — after some potential leaks — today.

In the invitation the company says it is “sharing progress on a few exciting projects” and that CEO Satya Nadella will lead the discussion. What’s missing here are, well, a number of things. The company has no plans to livestream the event; Nor did he provide any information about the types of products, projects, or even product categories that would be discussed.

What we do and what we don’t know

What we do know is that there will be hands-on demos. This could be a device like the Microsoft Surface Duo 3 smartphone. But with the recent Bing ChatGPT leaks, many people are betting that we will see an AI-powered search engine instead.

As described by Owen Yen (via The Verge), who got brief access to what may be the next generation of Microsoft’s search engine, Bing will incorporate a ChatGPT-like interface that can accept natural language queries and return some very smart results. The standard Bing search engine, based on this possible leak, will live on, along with the integration of artificial intelligence.

The Microsoft news comes as Google revealed its ChatGPT competitor, Bard AI, in a very limited release but with the promise of bringing it to Google Search soon.

Surface products, of the laptop type by the way, are unlikely. The company introduced its entire new Surface line, including the Surface Pro 9 5G, Surface Laptop 5, and Surface Studio 2 Plus less than four months ago. It’s also unlikely to have anything to do with Microsoft Hololens, a mixed reality headset and piece of the business that now appears to be running on fumes.

However, we do have good news. Whatever Microsoft and Nadella have planned for tomorrow, TechRadar will be there for real. Your intrepid reporter has a call and is on his way there now. We’ll share more details as soon as we get them. Make sure TechRadar is locked This reporter’s Twitter feed for live details.
