I picked up this little tip when I was reading product details on BestBuy.com (Opens in a new tab) Where, among other places, you can now buy a $1,499 / £1,500 / AU$2,450 headset, and for some reason I was blown away. The font is definitely suitable for Pursuit of the goal And the quest 2 VR headsets, which are mainly used for gaming and that cost somewhere in the range of a traditional game console. Children under the age of eight will probably want one. No teenager is likely to look at the Meta Quest Pro.
Unlike its VR predecessors, Meta Quest Pro isn’t just about the experiences you can have in the virtual world. It literally combines a high-resolution view of your real world with one that is created on the fly and overlayed on top of it. Simply put, it has all the hardware and innovation to justify this amazing price. Among the main features:

- Full color outdoor camera

In other words, this is a wearable computer that seems to have a lot of potential. It also feels, to me at least, a bit familiar.
In 2016, you were among the First to test Microsoft’s HoloLens engine (Opens in a new tab)Another powerful wearable computer with mixed reality aspirations. To be sure, Microsoft was slow to deliver the then-$3,000 headset into the hands of consumers. The developers got it first, then it opened up to some consumers (I think they were called “Explorers” ♂♂️), but, as far as I know, it’s never sold out by volume and is a completely abandoned product (Microsoft threw Its support is behind Meta Quest Pro) and mostly an enterprise tool.
However, Meta’s approach is quite different. It’s available on Best Buy mentioned above and on Amazon, Argos and Curry’s in the UK. There is no waiting for developers to adopt and develop the platform either. Many of the most popular Quest 2 VR apps, like the more popular Gravity Sketch and I Expect You to Die, are already running on Meta Quest Pro. There is also a desktop productivity app, Immersed, that uses headphone swipe technology. To put multiple screens floating all around you.
There are apps like Meta Horizons Workroom, which are said Meta employees do not like (Opens in a new tab)You can take advantage of Pro’s new facial recognition technology.
My point is that Meta and Meta Quest Pro customers don’t have to wait for useful apps, they may already be here.
The other big difference between Microsoft’s ill-fated effort and the Meta Quest Pro is the scrolling technology. HoloLens feature a transparent visor so you can see your real world by projecting what looks like a large TV screen (75 inches or so) floating in front of you. It can look vast because, of course, the viewport has changed as you turn your head, but you can also look around, which broke the illusion.
Instead, Meta Quest Pro uses external cameras to capture an HD view of your world and then combine it with VR elements. This means that no matter what shape or where you look at, virtual reality will be part of your environment. It may also make wearing the Meta Quest Pro a little easier because VR screens don’t have to be too close to your eyes, as they were on the HoloLens.

I’ve never found HoloLens particularly comfortable or easy to wear thanks to the dual head loop system. The Meta Quest Pro’s head strap system looks simpler, and that’s good news, our reporter Hamish Hector found the headset with “Comfortable, yet safe.” However, the 772g (1.7lbs) headphone is not lightweight. Even the original HoloLens weighed just 579 grams.
I’m excited about the redesigned controllers that eschew the Quest 2’s tracking pads and add some visual sensors to capture finger gestures. I still think, though, that at $1,499, the Meta Quest Pro should ship with tracking gloves.
It’s an auspicious moment for a VR headset designed to be your new work environment and next-level VR entertainment platform. At this price, the latter seems unlikely, but companies that can’t be bothered with adopting HoloLens might be willing to step into Best Buy or Currys and try the Meta Quest Pro.
