Maxar acquires Wovenware to strengthen AI capabilities

Maxar Technologies On Thursday, it said it has acquired Wovenware, which specializes in artificial intelligence and software development, and will make the Puerto Rican-based company one of the centers of excellence in software development and machine learning (ML).

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Wovenware has about 150 employees.

The two companies have worked together over the past five years on customer delivery and internal software engineering initiatives such as Maxar’s global image basemaps and Precision3D. Wovenware solutions help produce 3D terrain analysis tools, ML training data sets, and automatic object detection models.

“In today’s ever-changing world, our customers are constantly looking for ways to access our industry-leading products faster and more efficiently, and artificial intelligence and machine learning are critical to accelerating growth,” said Dan Jablonsky, President and CEO of Maxar. statement. “The incredibly talented Wovenware team has a proven track record of working together to deliver solutions to customers, and we’re excited to work even more closely together to grow and expand our proven customer base.”

Maxar said it will invest in Wovenware’s growth in Puerto Rico and help it attract engineering talent from across the island and the United States.

Wovenware has more than 50 customers around the world in government, aviation, healthcare, telecommunications, insurance and financial technology.

Wovenware co-founder Christian Gonzalez, CEO, and Carlos Melendez, chief operating officer, will remain with the company.

“Becoming one of Maxar’s centers of excellence in software development and artificial intelligence/machine learning enables us to accelerate our commitment to expanding our employee footprint and bringing the most exciting innovation and technology projects to Puerto Rico,” Melendez said in a statement.
