IT managers think they have the right technology for a hybrid job — but workers disagree

A significant proportion (78%) of ITDMs believe that their company provides sufficient equipment to Hybrid workwhile about 20% of employees appear to contradict this view by continuing to use their personal IT equipment in their jobs.

More than 3,000 people were surveyed by printer and camera maker Canon, with an almost equal split between ITDM and end users, across seven EU countries, including the UK, Germany and France.

Furthermore, another 20% said they struggle to get IT support when they need it at home, and 56% of ITDMs were asked to provide this type of support remotely.

Mixed issues

Such issues for employees include Sign digital documents and negotiating approval processes (42%), with 41% struggling to access the digital and physical documents they need. This leaves 37% having to visit their workplace to access and print files.

The most common help desk inquiries IT departments receive from employees include printing at home (56%), inability to access files remotely (43%), and having problems Share files with colleagues (36%).

Transitioning to hybrid work has proven to be a task for IT departments as well. 71% of ITDMs said their legacy technologies are not up to mixed working standards. As a result, getting new technology was key, but it wasn’t easy – 76% said they found it difficult to get equipment from multiple vendors.

This means that when problems arise with the technology, 71% of ITDMs need to contact all the different manufacturers to resolve it, which takes time. So the vast majority (81%) think it would be easier to have a single vendor for all your equipment and document management needs.

Canon believes that technologies that improve hybrid working conditions are in demand more than ever. 50% of respondents said their company is moving or will move towards hybrid working, with only 33% fully office. ITDMs seem to agree on this point, with 70% expecting an increase in IT spending to meet the demands of an ongoing hybrid business.
