iPhone 15 Pro could get solid-state volume and power buttons

The iPhone 15 It’s still a long way off, but we’ve already heard many rumors about it. New to the heap is the analyst’s prediction that the Pro models will have solid-state, tactile buttons that don’t physically move and sit close to the phones’ body.

That’s according to Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley, based in part on comments made by John Forsyth, CEO of Cirrus Logic (via Mac rumors (Opens in a new tab)). Cirrus Logic already provides some of the haptic technology found in current iPhones.

The company mentioned that the new components will hit the market in the second half of next year, which coincidentally is that Apple is churning out new iPhones, and… well, you can see why people are joining the dots.

These buttons use vibrations to simulate the sensation of touching them, even though they don’t actually move – see also trackpads on newer MacBook models, and home buttons on newer iPhone SE phones.

This backs up the prediction we heard from famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Back in October. It’s also believed that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max (if that’s what they’re really called) will go without physical buttons, though they’ll apparently still be attached to the cheaper iPhone 15 models.

We should find out for sure in September 2023. Using solid-state buttons will improve water resistance and reduce the chance of mechanical failure, although of course you don’t get such a satisfying clicking feel (at least in our opinion).

Analysis: Pro is evolving

Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen Apple add more and more features to its pro-level iPhones to make them more attractive options — and with iPhone 14 Pro And the iPhone 14 Pro Maxthey actually had a faster processor for the first time.

It looks like this trend will continue next year, and that’s something We’ve been hearing for a while. It pushes consumers towards more expensive models, and means that standard versions can be produced more cheaply.

earlier rumors We suggest we’re looking forward to a jump to 8GB of RAM for next year’s iPhone 15 Pro, as well as a periscope camera. Of course there will also be a brand new processor, most likely the A17 Bionic (while the A16 goes into the standard iPhone 15).

There was also talk of a iPhone 15 Ultra, which may replace the iPhone 14 Pro Max in next year’s lineup. This would set the available models apart even further – and would undoubtedly come with a hefty price tag attached to it.
