Samsung takes night photography to the next level with an update Galaxy S22 With the new Astrophoto feature as well as the ability to combine shots into a single photo.
Other smartphones have a “night mode” of some sort that allows the device to take better photos in low-light environments. But there hasn’t really been a coordinated push toward astrophotography.

The company even claims that you’ll have “professional quality” high-quality photos without additional equipment.
New experimental features
Astrophoto will be available through Expert RAW, an app on the Galaxy S22 line It allows people to take pictures in high quality RAW format as well as configure professional camera settings. Samsung didn’t provide many details but did mention using the device’s “advanced AI segmentation technology and multi-frame processing” to capture images over a period of time. By the sounds of things, you have to keep the phone still for some time while shooting.

Astrophoto and Multiple Exposures are currently in beta and are only available on S22 phones running One UI 5 which is currently only available through Verizon. A company representative told us that they recommend updating to One UI 5 first before downloading the beta version. If you’re one of the lucky ones with access, you can join the beta by opening the Settings menu in Expert RAW and then selecting the Special Photo option.
For everyone else, the representative also said that One UI 5 will be rolling out to more carriers over the coming days, so be sure to keep an eye out for that update as it arrives. We also asked if there are plans to release beta on older devices and if people will see Astrophoto in Future Galaxy S23but they cannot comment.
So it’s entirely possible that the official launch won’t be the last time we see Astrophoto. Improving night photography may be the future of smartphone cameras. It will be interesting to see if this is the case.
