Bitdefender wants to help secure your office printer

Bitdefender has announced a new partnership with Sharp Electronics that will provide the company printer With built-in anti-malware technology.

A press release from the two companies says the new collaboration is designed to prevent cybercriminals from implanting MalwareIntellectual property theft and espionage campaigns launched.

As companies continue to invest in and for the office’s smart, internet-connected devices Hybrid work Employees, malicious actors are becoming increasingly interested in exploiting compromised security in these devices.

Bitdefender on Sharp printers

The partnership will see Bitdefender first provide protection for Sharp’s range of future A3 multifunction printers (MFPs). To activate protection, the optional BP-VD10 Virus Detection Kit is required.

Soren Didio, Vice President of Product and Engineering at Bitdefender, explains that “Any device with an IP address connected to a corporate network is a potential access point for cybercriminals to exploit.”

Dediu continues: “Attacks target MFPs and other Internet of Things (IoT) devices because they know these devices are often left unprotected.”

Input and output data from compatible printers is scanned in real time, providing alerts to users or IT teams. Bitdefender promises protection against both known and unknown malware, including viruses, Trojans, worms, ransomware, advanced persistent threats, spyware, and more.

“This partnership with Bitdefender enables Sharp to expand our security capabilities even further and demonstrate our commitment to keeping our customers’ data, devices and networks secure,” says Jason Cort, Director of Product Planning and Marketing at Sharp Europe.

This extra layer of protection comes above the military standard security that features in Sharp’s Future Workplace A3 MFPs, including access control and intrusion detection features, as well as self-healing firmware, all visible on the 10.1-inch touch screen control panels.
