75% of Sindh is running on “e-signals” instead of 4G

A very surprising and analytical report was presented in a briefing to a committee of the National Assembly, which revealed that approximately 75% of Sindh still lacks proper 4G connectivity, and mobile users there receive only e-signals most of the time. This situation is not only severely affecting communications but is also directly impacting the operations of students, businesses, and emergency services.

Representatives told the committee that telecom infrastructure in rural and remote areas of the province is very old. Tower licensing, fiber deployment, and electricity issues have prevented service providers from installing upgraded networks. In some areas, even basic coverage is unstable, with dropped calls, delayed messages, and mobile data not loading at all becoming commonplace.

Experts say that while there is talk of 4G and 5G trials in major cities, Sindh’s interior areas still lack the basic network quality needed today. Students trying to take online classes find videos won’t load; farmers can’t access digital apps; And businesses in smaller cities are not benefiting from online payments and e-commerce tools.

According to Pakistan Tech News, the committee subjected service providers to tough questioning. Companies responded that high operational costs, security challenges, and limited revenue potential make it difficult to carry out fast upgrades in interior Sindh. The committee found this answer untenable and stated that a digital Pakistan is possible only when all provinces receive equal-level facilities—not just metropolitan cities.

The committee has issued guidelines that telecom companies and relevant authorities should jointly develop a time-bound action plan that identifies priority areas and provides them with fast-track 4G coverage. Members said that if the digital divide continues to grow, the economic and educational gap will deepen.

This issue will be reviewed in detail again in the coming weeks, while people are hoping that some practical progress will be made this time.
