Pakistan has announced a major package for the promotion of startups to ramp up the digital economy. This comprises equity-free grants and cloud enablement support countrywide.
Major Schemes and Purposes
- These initiatives have been launched by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications under its flagship, Ignite. The main programs include:
Pakistan Startup Fund
- This will reduce risk for private investors.
- It shall provide equity-free grants of up to 30% of the investment round.
- This would facilitate the flow of new funds into the sector.
Prime Minister’s Cloud Enablement for Startups
- startups will get subsidized access to the world’s topmost platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Huawei Cloud.
- The new companies can take a leap in emerging technologies like AI and FinTech.
BridgeStart Pakistan
- This program will facilitate companies entering global markets
- It will support them in becoming part of international accelerators, and engage with foreign investors.
Government Situation
Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized that these initiatives are within the ambit of the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision and will further empower the entrepreneurs, actively helping Pakistan to compete in the global tech ecosystem.
- Its CEO at Ignite, Rafique Ahmed Burriro, said the approach concentrates infrastructure, finance, and global exposure on one platform for sustainable innovation.
- Several startups, such as Motovest, Paymo, Chaajao Tech, received checks and recognition for their achievements globally.
- According to industry representatives, this change is going to significantly improve Pakistan’s inclusion in global venture networks and support job creation in technology fields.
