If you think a certain traffic challan issued in your name is wrong, you can now contest and have it annulled while sitting at home. According to a report by Pakistan Tech News, the governments and their departments of traffic are enhancing their digital systems and e-challan portals to minimize manual visits and disputes online. First of all, note down the details of the challan-challan number, date, time, and the alleged violation. This information is provided through the online portal or via SMS/notification. Then, you will have to enter your vehicle number or challan number on the e-challan portal of your province, where you often find options like “dispute” or “appeal”. There you will have to fill out a small form citing the reason for the mistake, such as a wrong number plate, malfunction of the camera, or that your vehicle was somewhere else.
You can also attach the evidence while submitting it—upload mobile photos, dashcam footage, or parking receipts, or even witness details. If you have support documents like vehicle registration or a driving license, attach a scanned copy of those while submitting the complaint. After you have submitted your appeal on the portal, you will get an acknowledgment number, and it is advisable to keep the number safe for tracking the case. In the absence of online options, you can often register complaints through calls/WhatsApp to the traffic police helpline or local traffic office. You would, however, be given further instructions and timelines there.
Please note that the process may vary from province to province, and resolution times will further vary-some cases are resolved within a few days, while others may take weeks for internal verification. If your online appeal gets rejected, one can file a formal grievance in person at the traffic office, but it’s more convenient and faster to try the digital route first. We recommend attaching all relevant evidence while submitting the appeal, saving a screenshot of the acknowledgment, and periodically checking the status of your case on the portal if possible. In all, according to Pakistan Tech News, the benefits of e-challan systems are that they save the public unnecessary travel and increase transparency-all users need to do is have their documents and evidence ready so that a wrongful challan can be quickly cancelled.
