The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has officially rolled out its new digital payment system, which aims to provide beneficiaries with more secure, fast, and transparent payments. The system is being gradually implemented across the country, where millions of families receive its quarterly financial assistance. With the new setup, recipients will now face fewer long lines, unnecessary deductions, and manual errors.
According to officials, the digital payment system is designed to maintain a clear digital record of every transaction. This process includes biometric verification, secure digital tracking and automated reconciliation, which will help prevent fraud, intermediaries and illegal deductions. Beneficiaries will now receive payments through designated digital channels, which can include mobile wallets, banking apps and specific payment centers.
The biggest benefit of the system is said to be the significant improvement in transparency and financial accuracy. Earlier, there were complaints of deductions and delayed disbursements in many areas, but now due to digital logging, every transaction will be traceable. Additionally, beneficiaries will receive SMS alerts and real-time payment status, making it easier for them to verify when and how much their installment was transferred.
According to Pakistan Tech News, this new initiative by BISP is being considered a major step toward modernizing social welfare payments. The digital system will also improve the program’s cost-efficiency and reduce operational burden. Officials say the platform will be further expanded in the next phase to provide additional self-service features to users.
Experts also believe that if this system runs smoothly, it will set a new benchmark for technology integration in Pakistan’s social protection programs. Beneficiaries have given positive feedback on the initial rollout and it is being considered an important relief measure.
