The trend of sustainability efforts is gradually growing in Pakistan’s telecom sector, and in this regard, Mobilink (now Jazz) has achieved a significant milestone. The company has confirmed that its three major offices in Lahore and Islamabad – including Mobilink House and Annex II CIB – have received WWF Green Office certification. With this certification, Mobilink has become the first telecom company in Pakistan to implement eco-friendly operational standards across its multiple premises.

This certification is given to organizations that adopt energy conservation, waste management, and sustainable practices in their office environment. In the case of Mobilink, WWF Pakistan confirmed in a 2015 audit that the company had achieved measurable improvements in electric consumption, paper usage, and solid waste management. According to the report, Mobilink achieved a 73% reduction in its resource consumption, while in 2014 itself the company reduced its carbon footprint by 35% and solid waste by 50%—a rare achievement for Pakistan’s telecom sector.

Mobilink’s Director of Corporate Communications, Omar Manzur, said that the company’s Corporate Responsibility Function actively ensures that employees adopt environmentally friendly practices and use resources efficiently. This certification is the result of those consistent efforts. He explained that the HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) departments and Mobilink Foundation Torchbearers jointly conducted awareness programs and internal initiatives where employees were taught green habits and practical steps towards sustainability.

Under this initiative, an Environmental Management System (EMS) was designed in 2014 with the aim of reducing the company’s carbon footprint and creating a greener work environment. Through this system, Mobilink implemented natural daylight usage, recycling and reusing materials, and energy-saving protocols in offices. Employees were also actively involved so that green office culture is not limited to policy but becomes a part of daily operations.

Mobilink’s internal volunteer group “Torchbearers” were designated as “Green Watchers” – their role was to spread Reuse, Reduce, Recycle (RRR) awareness among employees. This initiative promotes both environmental education and behavioral change at the practical level. The company also encouraged paperless communication and digital documentation in its offices, significantly reducing paper waste.

According to industry observers, this move by Mobilink sets an example for Pakistan’s corporate sustainability framework. In the telecom sector, which is known for high resource consumption and electronic waste generation, such initiatives establish a positive precedent for environmental responsibility.

Following WWF Green Office certification, Mobilink’s next target is to adopt similar environmental management systems in its remaining regional offices. The company states that the long-term goal of these green measures is not just cost reduction, but to build a culture of corporate environmental accountability in Pakistan.

This milestone also highlights that Pakistani corporations are gradually aligning with global sustainability standards. Mobilink’s “Green Office” project shows that if environmental policies are integrated with practical frameworks and employee participation, measurable ecological impact can be achieved.
